Frequently Asked Questions
What is movementsixtyone.com?movementsixtyone.com (M61) is a site dedicated to acting like a hub for artists and listeners of the Web site thesixyone.com (T61). The information here is specifically for those artists and listeners that have left or are considering leaving T61.
What prompted you to build this site?On January 20, 2010, the owners of T61 (a music-sharing site), without any notice or support, implemented a new design that left long-time users stumped, frustrated, and angry. Many of the key social features that allowed artists and listeners to directly connect were removed. No help files were given on how to use the new design. Realizing that a vocal majority of users' voices were not being heard, many started to leave. The community needed a hub to share and spread information about what was going on and who was going where. This need was painfully obvious with the complete removal of social features on the T61 site.
Isn't the T61 community overreacting a bit?For the most part, no. The vocal majority that has reacted negatively have done so because of what was removed. New users may see the new design as "elegant" and "gorgeous", but long-time users enjoyed T61 for specific reasons. Those reasons were smashed with the redesign. The additional insults of no real communication being made by the developers and no documentation about the changes being made available have left most of the vocal majority feeling poorly about the owners' actions.
What kind of information do you host here? The growing library is host to news, information, social networking links, and music related to T61 and the fallout of its design change. The forum is available for people to discuss topics and also leave a "forwarding address" of sorts for people who may be looking for them. There is also a blog for providing news and analysis of the situation.
What's next for your site after the protesting ends? There is no real long-term plan for this site at the moment. It may become defunct sooner than later as communities of former T61 members move on and put T61 behind them. As long as the information here remains relevant, it will be here for artists and music fans alike.
